Class – Glazing

Description

Our max group size is 6 students + 1 instructor.

After the Glazing class we will need about 2 weeks to carry out the final firing and get your item ready for pick up.

During the Glazing class, you apply color to the surface of a ceramic item that is already shaped, and fired for the first time in a ‘bisque firing’.

Some of our students choose to coat their items in dynamic stoneware glazes, which produce complex organic patterns when fired. Others choose to create a more particular design, e.g. some writing or illustration. You can even use specialist ceramic pencils to make a detailed sketch on your ceramics. We will give you all the help you need to make sure you have a completed item by the end of this class.

We will give you access to our rich, ever-changing stock of high-quality ceramic glazes and underglazes. We will help you understand what will work best for your item, and what you should avoid.

If you only purchase a Glazing class, without a Shaping class beforehand, we will handle the Shaping ourselves. In this case, before your class we will shape a range of handmade items and fire them to make them ready for Glazing. You only worry about the surface decoration, in a simplified version of the ceramic process.

No matter which class you choose, you will take home at least one fully finished ceramic object, created by your hand.
